Dear Sarah

Wow.  I am in awe.  Sarah, my daughter, is going to be eight. EIGHT! It feels like just yesterday that she was eight DAYS old.  Now she is going to be eight YEARS old. Where did all the time go?

I use to write little letters to her knowing that someday she could read them. Now I realize she is at an age where I can write the letters to her directly.  So please, forgive me a moment while I dedicate this blog to my big girl, my big, almost 8 YEAR OLD girl; my heart and soul.

Dear Sarah,

Since the moment you came into this world, since the moment we knew we would be having you, you had an amazing and wonderful effect on both Daddy and I. Our love and wishes for you are nearly impossible to put into words, but I am going to try.

I hope you know just how excited we were eight years go to have you, to hold you, and to love you... nothing about that has ever changed. We are so incredibly happy to have YOU in our lives on this day as much as we were the day you were born.

You are turning 8 baby girl, and that is just so unbelievable to us. Daddy and I stand amazed at what a beautiful young girl you are and what an incredible woman you are growing to be. No rush though. You have a whole lot of little girl play in you and we both kind of hope you never lose that.

Every year you are learning more and becoming so much the person you will be in this life. We see already that you are, and will be, a girl that likes to know. You are, and will be, a girl that wants to help. You are, and will be, a girl that loves with your whole heart. You are, and will be, a girl that likes to do good in this life. Daddy and I are so happy with all of these beautiful qualities of yours. You are intelligent, sincere, giving, creative, and uniquely you.

You are beautiful inside and out. You have your own amazing style that makes us smile. I love that you dress yourself from head to toe in brightly colored socks, bows, skirts, and dresses. But I also want you to always know that your beautifulness, your true beauty is what radiates from within.  Your beautifulness is not the accessories, clothing or lip gloss, it IS your heart and your spirit.

I hope that you always allow your wonderful self to shine inside out. Do not let others tell you how to act or who to be. Do not let others sway you from your own path. Above all else, do not let anyone make you feel anything less than amazing. YOU ARE AMAZING!

Sarah, this world is a wonderful and challenging place. It is yours to savor, navigate, and enjoy. We want you to live each day with a sense of thankfulness and we want you to always honor your heart. Daddy and I will be beside you every step of the way. We will hold your hand, cheer you on, pick you up, and watch you continue to discover what it means to BE YOU. We can't promise that life will always be easy, there will always be a few "crumps" in life, but we can promise you that you have within you everything you need to succeed and overcome any challenges that come your way.

We love you, sweetheart, and we wish you a happy and joyful birthday!

Mommy and Daddy (and Elijah)
